Benefits of Pilates

Pilates is a form of exercise that was designed by Joseph Pilates.  As a child we was sickly and weak, but he developed an exercise program that helped him tone down and become strong.  He become so strong that he overcame his childhood ailments and become a boxer and trainer.  What Pilates is, is a form of exercise to make your body stronger and toner.  It does not require weights or strenuous activity.

All the program does is focus on a person's movements and stretches the muscles.  Many people can do these activities in their home with an instruction video or DVD.  However, for a person to see the benefits of the routine they need to do it on a regular basis.  If you think you have the discipline, then working out at home should be easy.  Though many people do not have the discipline, so you may need to find a personal trainer or go to gym or health facility that offers Pilates.

The key to this program is discipline.  You need to do your workouts on a weekly basis and you need to workout at least twice a week.  If you want to work out more, that is great, but you need to go to the gym or pop in the video at least twice a week.  You may need some equipment, depending on the video, so make sure you read the back of the video for recommendations.

As for the benefits of Pilates, you will find that you will become healthier mentally and physically.  You will definitely notice an increase in upper body and lower body strength.  If you workout regularly then you should definitely be toned.  However, there are other benefits to Pilates.  Because you are staying active, your body will feel less fatigue and the exercise will also help reduce your stress levels.

When you do Pilates, you are mainly stretching the muscles and when you stretch your muscles, you will become more flexible and have more mobility.  With all those benefits, you will also notice that your daily routines will be easier and your performance, whether it be physically or mentally, will increase.  With any type of exercise, you will notice that your lungs will allow you to breathe easier and you will feel more alive.

Some of the other benefits that are not always mentioned when it comes to Pilates are how it physically helps your body to improve.  Sure, it will tone you, but it will also increase your circulation and make your body over all healthier.  Because you're moving and doing some exercise, you will have better posture and your aches and pains will be less.  This is because the body is letting go of certain hormones and it is relieving your muscle tension and stress.
